Get A 14er "Warm Up" on Gray's and Torrey's Peaks

Ideally the hike will start at Grays Peak/Steven's Gulch Trailhead at 11,200 feet, but often times Steven's Gulch road is impassable past a certain point, so extra walking will be required to reach the trailhead. From the trailhead, cross the creek and begin hiking on the very obvious and well marked trail up toward Grays. You cannot yet see either mountain, but they will be in view shortly. After half a mile the trail flattens out for nearly a mile. At this point the rest of the route is visible to both peaks. Keep on the obvious trail and begin heading up toward the summit of Gray's. This trail, like any 14er trail, will get quite steep, but it is nothing that cannot be simply done by just taking time to rest every now and then. Traverse a few easy switchbacks and before you know it, you've mad the summit!

To head to Torreys' follow the trail off the northwest side of Grays down to the saddle. This section is steep, so be careful of your footing on the way down. Once on the saddle, the remaining climb to Torrey's is only a half a mile and 500-600 feet of elevation gain away. The only downside is that this is easily the steepest part of the entire hike, and it will require you to take your time, but the end result is very worth it, as I think Torrey's is the better of the two peaks.

When descending, head back down to the saddle the way you came, but instead of climbing back to Gray's, follow the trail that splits off on the saddle (should be marked with a sign), and head back down the side of Gray's. From this trial it is very obvious as to where you are headed, and eventually this trail will meet up with the one you took on the way up to Gray's. From this point, simply follow the main trial back down to the trailhead, around 2 or 2.5 miles away.
