Bonsai Rock is a classic photo location for shooting sunset at Lake Tahoe. The rock is a massive boulder in the clear blue water with a few small plants on it that resemble a bonsai garden.

The best time to shoot the rock is at sunset or at night. The sky is fairly dark and offers glimpses of the Milky Way and the stars. The cove is fairly large and offers piles of boulders and bits of beach which allow you to shoot the rock from a variety of unique angles.

Getting to Bonsai Rock is easy. From Incline Village take the road looping around the lake south. You'll pass Sand Harbor and a section of road with residential housing. Do not park there or you will be towed. Drive the mile through the houses and then pull off on the side of the road in the dirt. There isn't an official parking spot or trail but look and you will see a lot of trails that lead down to the cove. You can see Bonzai Rock from the road.

The area tends to be crowded so get there early if you want a specific shot. Parking can be difficult as well especially since you are very close to the road with no parking lot. Be safe.
