Hike to the Summit of Mount Pilchuck

This is a popular hike that draws outdoor-lovers of all skill levels, so if you can aim to go mid-week and avoid weekend crowds, it gives you a chance for a more serene experience. The high-elevation trail head starts you off at 3,000 feet (GPS coordinates are: 48.0621, -121.8107). Your ascent will take you on a 2,300 foot climb over 2.7 miles to the restored fire lookout tower, which was originally built in 1921 and serves as a cool landmark in the area. Keep right at the fork in the path as you begin your climb, and be sure you're wearing good-traction boots as you're likely to hit wet conditions and possible snow, depending upon the season. At the 1 mile marker look for an orange trail marker to steer you left through the boulders and back onto the more defined trail. After another half-mile, the lookout tower should be visible.

Be sure to pack a lunch because when you reach the summit, you'll want to stay a bit and enjoy the incredible views, particularly with a small group of your favorite hiking buddies. Enjoy!
