Double O Arch, Arches National Park, UTAH

Double O Arch is on the trail to several very popular arches. So the beginning of your trip may be crowded, but fear not, most of the people stop when they reach landscape arch only .8 miles in. Double O is about 2.1 miles from the Devil’s Garden trailhead, and there are many side trip options and even the option to make it into a loop. See the NPS map provided upon entrance for more details about the different side trips. Bring plenty of water as it can be very hot and there is little shade on this trip.

Starting at the trailhead, make your way to Landscape arch. Once reached, the trail becomes a bit more primitive, taking you up steep sandstone ledges and over medium to large rocks, with cairns guiding much of the way. With fantastic views of the La Sal mountains behind you, press forward to the Black Arch Overlook. Once reaching this point, you are almost to the overlook at Double O. If you continue down the sandstone ledge from here, you can get right to the base of Double O and even behind it for the best views. Please do not climb on the arches and respect this beautiful landscape!

After enjoying the view, hikers can either spur off to Dark Angel Arch, continue on to the primitive loop trail, or go back the way they came. Simply going back the same way is very interesting, as some of the view missed on the way in are evident and spectacular on the way out.
