Photograph The Maroon Bells

Carbondale, Colorado

Description

Added by Will McKay

It's almost an requirement for any photographer residing in Colorado to photograph the Maroon Bells at sunrise. So get out there and take some photos.

Probably the most photographed place in Colorado, or maybe even in the United States, the Maroon Bells are simply a stunning sight to see.

Beautiful 14er's surrounded by smaller mountains with a view of a lake? How can you beat that? Well you really can't and thats why thousands flock to the Maroon Bells for the sunrise every year.

Want to be part of the mob? It's almost a rite of passage for photographers in Colorado.

To get there all you simply do is follow Maroon Creek Road up from Aspen. That is essentially it. The road is very well paved and sees heavy use most days.

To photograph the sunrise, we arrived at the overnight parking lot, which was located below the main lot, around 9pm. There will not be any park rangers between the times of 8pm and 5am thus you will simply fill out a self pay fee for your pass. After you've paid you can simply camp in your car in the lot.

To take some unique photos, head from the overnight lot to the lake during the night. Simply set up a tripod and begin to take star photos, the milky way aligns itself perfectly over the Maroon Bells.

If you're not up for night time photos be sure to wake up a good 30 minutes before sunrise because the lake will be very crowded with photographers.

Something to note, the peaks of the Maroon Bells will begin to be bathed in sunshine about 45 minutes after sunrise.

So there you go, enjoy yourself and enjoy the jaw dropping views that the Bells have to offer.
