El Matador's iconic rock formations make for the perfect backdrop for any night photos. A close drive from Los Angeles, with little light pollution!

Finding a dark enough spot for night photography in Los Angeles is a little tricky with all of the light pollution. Although some city lights are still visible from this stretch of the beach, El Matador's large cliffs and picturesque rock formations block a lot of the light pollution, and make for the perfect backdrop to the stars!

The parking lot for the beach closes at sunset, but street parking is still available on PCH, right across the street from the entrance. Take the trail to the left of the parking lot, descend two large stairwells, and you're there! A super short hike, for a huge payoff.

Definitely bring headlamps, a tripod for some sweet long-exposures, and maybe even some tea or hot chocolate to warm you up!
