Visiting Sequoia National Park can leave your jaw constantly open while hiking through the massive sequoia forests, especially on the Congress Trail
Visiting Sequoia National Park can leave your jaw constantly open while hiking through the massive sequoia forests, especially on the Congress Trail. Visiting Sequoia for the first time was absolutely mind blowing, how could trees possibly get that BIG?
First off, get to the trail head early. It's an exceptionally easy trail and draws in the crowds. Better yet, visit in November when the park isn't as crowded and you'll be treated to an empty forest with amazing views.
To begin the hike you'll need to find parking in the General Sherman parking lot. This is located about 10 minutes up the road from the information center and museum within the park. Once you've found parking, just head down the paved path to the General Sherman Tree.
This tree is largest Sequoia currently living on earth. It's extremely surreal standing next to this beast of a tree. From the tree just head to the Congress Trail and begin your trek. The trailhead is clearly marked and very well paved.
Throughout this 3 mile loop you'll get to experience the biggest grove of sequoias in the world. Near the turn around point there will be a cluster of sequoias which has been dubbed "The Senate". Sadly, photos will never do this place justice.
Enjoy the trail, stay hydrated, and take in the beautiful views!
