Description

A long but moderately rated trail that winds alongside the reservoirs and visits the waterfalls.
The trail starts near the O'Shaughnessy Dam and goes through a tunnel. It then follows the reservoir and has many switchbacks. A lot of the trail is in sunlight, but you do get a quick cool off when you pass through Wapama Falls.
There is a bridge that goes past the falls, but you will most likely get soaked. If you have a backpack, be sure to put a waterproof covering on it before crossing the bridge. The trail is 14-15 miles long, but be sure to also take into account the distance to and from the parking lot if you have to park further away from the trailhead.
If making this an overnighter, be sure to bring your bear canister to store your food in. And be sure to get your wilderness permit by applying online or picking up a first-come-first-served permit from the Big Oak Flat Information Station.
