Photograph the Historic East Side neighborhood in Santa Fe

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Description

Added by Jared Blitz

The only place in the US where you'll find Native American and Spanish influence quite like this!

Looking for a great way to get some exercise and photography that doesn't include switchbacks or climbing a mountain?

Leave your place with a fully charged camera and walk the neighborhoods of the Historic East Side in Santa Fe. You will find each street has its own character of Native American and Spanish influences with different styles of windows, doors, adobe configurations, and tchotckes to offer an iconic southwest appearance.

They could be homes, storefronts, or galleries, so keep your eyes peeled to make sure you either don't walk into someone's house or don't miss an opportunity to go inside to see some original artwork.

Plenty of restaurants abound, so you don't have to worry about going hungry. You're usually not too far away from delicious New Mexican fare.

My favorite time to photograph the neighborhoods is when the sun is starting to go down and the shadows begin casting off the trees to provide a cool contrast with the buildings.

I would recommend light hiking boots because you'll often find yourself walking along dirt roads. If you're going during warm temperatures I'd recommend carrying a camelback to be on the safe side since there is a lot of exposure to the sun.
