Isolated and remote, the Faroe Islands are a stunningly gorgeous archipelago between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic. These verdant green islands represent a land of dramatic and windswept beauty, a unique world dominated by steep grassy sloped islands and majestic fjords.
A visit to the increasingly popular (and rightly so) Faroe Islands is one of wondrous beauty. While this tiny nation is comprised of only 18 islands, it exudes nothing short of breathtaking scenery. Exploring this landscape will take you across beautiful mountainsides teeming with waterfalls, through seemingly endless tunnels, and along countless narrow roads to quaint villages flanked by majestic mountains.
Because of its Northern Atlantic location, the weather in the Faroe Islands can be exceedingly fickle, even in the middle of a Faroese Summer. That said, it can add depth to the already dramatic scenery, provided you're prepared for all likes of precipitation.
While it may not have the diversity of landscapes of Iceland, the Faroe Islands very much have their own unique and wonderful character. One of the refreshing elements of visiting now, is you can explore at your own pace (provided you have a vehicle), and chances are without another tourist to be seen.
Serene Saksun is a must for any visit to the Faroe Islands. From its picturesque location overlooking a stunning Faroese Fjord to its gorgeous grass roofed huts and abundant waterfalls.
Gásadalur on the island of Vágar is one of those epic locations that simply takes your breath away. It's also one of the easiest locations to get to, thanks to a tunnel carving its way through the steep mountains, which provided you have good visibility and opens up to a majestic view over the beautiful village. A small path off the side of the road leads directly to this viewpoint.
The northernmost settlement of Viðareiði is absolutely worth the scenic drive to visit. If you're up for a steep but beautiful hike, Villingardalsfjall beckons and rewards with epic views over Viðoy and the surrounding islands.
With so many coastlines and dramatic weather, there is no shortage of epic craggy seascapes in the Faroe Islands, including one of the highest promontories in the world, the Faroe Islands truly are an adventurers playground.
