7 Dog-Friendly Hikes in Marin County
San Francisco dogs are living the good life.
Between dog parks, "dogs welcome" restaurant patios, and off-leash beaches, they (and their owners) have plenty of reasons to love the city by the bay.
Let us add another check mark to the list: dog-friendly hiking in Marin County. Wild beauty reigns supreme across the Golden Gate Bridge, and there's no better adventure partner than your favorite four-legged friend.
In the mood for the beach? Waterfalls? Rocky cliffs? Redwoods? Yes, yes, yes, and yes. Marin County has a dog-friendly trail for that. Here are seven of our absolute favorites.

Once the rainclouds clear after a storm, make your way to Cataract Falls with your pup. Though it's pretty at any time, rainfall really makes the water cascade along this 3-mile out-and-back hike.

A quick jaunt from San Francisco, Rodeo Cove to Point Bonita Lighthouse is a beach hike that leaves from the Marin Headlands Visitor Center. Dogs aren't allowed in the lighthouse, but with these views, you won't mind.

If wild beauty is your thing, look no further than the Lands End Trail in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The hike is a relatively easy 3-mile loop, with nice access to beaches and views of the historic Sutro Baths.

If you and your dog are up for something a bit more challenging, check out the 11-mile trail at Bolinas Ridge. Redwoods and wildlife (and, of course, a bit of fog) mix together to create the perfect city escape. Dogs must be on a leash.

Carson Falls is an under-the-radar waterfall that shines after a good rainstorm. The 3-mile trail gains some elevation, so get ready to sweat! Bring some snacks for you and your pup...you'll both be glad you did.
Adventure by Jennifer Heifferon
Looking to bring the whole family with you? Don't miss the gentle hike around Phoenix Lake in the Mount Tamalpais Watershed. 2.7 miles and hardly any elevation gain make this a great walk for everyone, including your furry friend.

Weave through the redwoods on the shady and cool Dawn Falls Trail in Larkspur. This 2.2-mile out-and-back is super scenic, and just a quick drive from San Francisco. If you're looking to hike even further, check out the map at the trailhead for the connectors to make the hike a 5-mile loop.
