7 Reasons Why Fall in Colorado Is Truly Epic
There are simply endless photographic possibilities for stunning fall color scenes in Colorado's stunning wilderness. A little exploration and perseverance can reward you with breathtaking scenery across a vast and rugged landscape.
1. Snow Dusted Mountains Flanking Massive Aspen Groves
We all associate fall with beautiful bright colors blanketing the landscape, and while Colorado may not have the vast range of colors across the spectrum as other states, there is something truly majestic about a scene full of stunning Aspen stands with a background of craggy, snow-dusted peaks.
2. Collision of Color and Seasons
Thanks to Colorado's elevation and highly dynamic mountain weather, seasons can collide with snow blanketing the deep yellow Aspen leaves. Black and white tree trunks lining steep snowy mountainsides can add even more depth to gorgeous scenes.
3. Sheer Scale of Scenery
Across the vast Colorado high country, you really can find solitude amongst an epic fall colored landscape. All you need do is explore a little off the beaten path and you can find your own unique scene.
4. Diversity of Landscapes
After living in California for many years, I was always in awe of the range of mountain landscapes California has to offer. Colorado may not have a coastline, but the staggering array of varied mountain landscapes is something equally beautiful to behold and beckons for exploring.
5. Ease of Access
Some of the most magnificent fall scenes in Colorado can be accessed via paved and county roads, provided you have a sturdy vehicle and a little patience. You really can see so much without having to venture too far from your car. Of course, heading deeper into the backcountry brings even greater rewards
6. Yearly Variability
Each year since moving to Colorado, I have ventured into the San Juan Mountain Range for fall colors and no year or scene has ever been the same. Each trip has been unique due to timing and weather, allowing for almost endless exploring and photographic opportunities.
7. A Unique Treasure Awaits
Many people fly from around the world to see Colorado's legendary fall colors and dramatic landscape. It truly is a unique, stunning part of the world so get out and explore it!
