Malouf's Mountain Camp on Mt. Beacon

Starting in the quaint town of Beacon there are a couple of options for hikes of varying difficulty.
From the station the walk is about 1.5 miles to the trail heads, alternatively if you choose to stay the night at Malouf's Mountain Sunset Campground you can arrange for the host to meet you, take your packs and tents and drop you at one of the trail heads.

With three hikes to choose from you can go for a 1 hour (#1), 2.5 hours (#2) or 3-5 hour (#3) hike. The longest hike takes you up the only incline railway track, past cool old casino ruins and eventually up towards the Mt Beacon Fire tower where you pop out onto large slabs of rock and look back down over the city of Beacon. 

The trail then tracks across Fishkill ridge, descends down again, into the leafy forest trails and winds up at Malouf's Mountain Sunset Campground where a cold beer(!) awaits you.

To hike out you can choose to take a different trail, meeting the Shuttle with your gear back at Beacon train station.

For the adventurous, hiking back out through the town is a fun experience. I recommend stopping at the Mexican place on Main Street for a taco in their garden, popping next door for an interesting flavored ice cream and if you have time checking out DIA: Beacon for some amazing site specific art.
