Head out to Paradise Cove via Point Dume and take in breathtaking coastal views, walk along isolated beaches of Malibu, and encounter amazing wildlife makes this hike one of the most spectacular adventures in Los Angeles.

You will start your beach-hiking to Paradise Cove from Point Dume which is located 20 miles north of Santa Monica on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). On PCH, take left on Westward Beach Road and follow it to the end. Try to park as close to the end of the paid parking lot. You can use the automated machines to pay for your parking.

From the end of the parking lot, head up towards the hillside on a paved trail. On the way up, you will see bunch of rock climbers navigating the rock slab at the end of the beach.

When you reach to the top, keep right and start walking on the broadwalk. Enjoy the spectacular views of the pacific ocean, do a little bit of whale watching, and take a peek at the seals sunbathing on the rocks below. When the broadwalk ends, take another right, and go towards the beach. You will go down a steep staircase and head towards left.

From this point on you will be walking along the beach until you see the pier at Paradise Cove. Before start walking along the beach, check the tide tables and make sure it is low tide because you might need to walk over rocks and dodge some waves.

When you reach Paradise Cove, you can grab a lunch or drinks from Paradise Cove cafe before you head back. Or you can have a picnic right on the beach.

PS. You can always catch an Uber from Paradise cove to your car also.

Reviews

We revisited this, one of our favorite hike, after an 8 year hiatus. Turns out the staircase allowing access from the bluffs to the beach leading to Paradise Cove is now fenced off and is seriously dilapidated. It's easy to get around the fencing (thanks to those who have gone before and knocked sections down) but it won't be long before this staircase entirely degrades. If you can go in the next year or so you really should. This spectacular stretch of beach will soon effectively be private. But go without young kids and be sure to pay attention to tide tables so you're not stranded. Sad to lose this Socal treasure.

Great hike along the bluffs
