Beautiful, remote location with an 8.2 mile bike route around the entire island.
Mackinac Island is accessible only by ferry, and there are no cars allowed on the island. While you can rent bikes over there, we opted to bring ours along on the Star Line ferry. Super easy and we had no problems!
Lake Shore Boulevard, or State Highway M-185, wraps around the entire island and is fairly level. If you go on one of the many interior trails or streets there is definitely some hill climbing, but with our kids (ages 10, 8. & 5) we opted for the easier route and stuck to the perimeter.
The best way to do this route is to go counter-clockwise. The road winds along the coast the entire way with beautiful views of Lake Huron.
There are some great stops along the way as well, so definitely plan to take your time! We climbed the 207 steps to view Arch Rock, walked the Nature Trail, and enjoyed learning about the history at British Landing.
Also, don't miss the the public library and its amazing deck, pizza at , and some ice cream or fudge at one of the many shops downtown!

Reviews
My family and I went up to visit Mackinac Island when I was a kid and we decided to do the biking last minute. It turned out to be a great decision as this was one of the most fun things we did. The old setting of Mackinac really adds a lot to the trip, too. This should definitely be something that you consider if you're heading up to Mackinac Island.
