Ride the rolling hills between Bastrop State Park and Buescher State Park as you see this area recover from the most destructive fire in Texas history.
In the fall of 2011, the most destructive fire in Texas history burned through Bastrop, just 45 minutes east of Austin, TX. This makes for an interesting, and eerie, bike ride. As you ride through the park, you can see the extent of damage the fire caused. It's also amazing to see the vegetation bounce back several years later.
There are 2 state parks here, Bastrop State Park and Buescher State Park. They are connected via Park Rd 1C. This road is just a 2-lane road, with very light traffic, and the speed limit is 30mph, making it a bike-friendly route.
The scenic out-and-back 13mi route is very easy to follow. Starting in Bastrop State Park, just hop on Park Rd 1C and it will take right to Buescher State Park. There are a few steep hills, so this is recommended for those who are used to riding hills and have the right bike.
If you are driving here, it's probably best to park at the Dining Hall in Bastrop State Park, next to the pool, once you enter the park. You could also start in Buescher State Park, if you like. You can get a park map from the ranger station. There is also a park entrance fee (see below).
For more information on the state parks, visit Bastrop State Park and Buescher State Park.

- Child 12 Years and Under: Free
