Easygoing, flat, and scenic bike ride along the Potomac River with views of Washington D.C.
Start your ride at the Teddy Roosevelt Island parking area and head southbound towards Mt. Vernon. You'll be riding next to the Potomac the entire time, with great views of the National Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and the Memorial Bridge. The ride is as long as you want to make it, but a great ride is to Old Town Alexandria and back (14 miles total)! You can stop for lunch in Old Town at one of the many great restaurants or smoothie shops.
Teddy Roosevelt Island parking area fills very quickly on the weekends, so arrive early!

Reviews
The Mt Vernon trail running from George Washington’s Mt Vernon estate to Theodore Roosevelt Island for 17 miles is a beautiful and scenic multi-use trail that winds through historic Old town in Alexandria, and skirts the Potomac river almost the entire way. The trail is paved and signposted the entire way with multiple parking lots, access points , overlooks and picnic areas . I’ve had a lot of fun biking, running and walking my dog along different sections of the trail.
