No traffic, no lights, no problems! The perfect ride on a sunny or rainy day.
Head over to the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve and hop on your two-wheeler to enjoy this stunning 20k ride.
Your ride will begin at the trailhead, where hikers walk off to rice lake. Stay off to the right, where there is an obvious bike path (2 paved lanes). This trail will take you ~11kms up to the Seymour Dam, which is otherwise inaccessible. The views at the dam are there, but interrupted by fencing, so the ride itself is the beauty to look forward to on this trail.
Huge, winding forest surrounds you for the full 10kms, and this is a beautiful trail no matter the weather. When you hit approximately the 9km mark, you will reach a yellow gate and a crossroads. Here, you will see a sign for the old growth trail across the main road. You can either follow this sign down to the river where you can see a multitude of things on the old growth trail, or take a left on the main road toward the Seymour Dam. Don't worry, if you go left, you can still access the Old Growth Trail via the gravel path on the East side of the main road right before the top of the dam.
The Old Growth Trail is an additional ~3kms to your trip, and is well worth the effort. Beware that this trail has more of a single-track vibe than paved pathway, and that weak road tires may not survive on the gravel path. The trail will take you along the beautiful Seymour River, with interpretive signs about the salmon spawning in the area. Beautiful hidden swimming holes, 500yr old Spruce, and the Bear Island bridge await the explorer of this trail.
