Boat-In Camp at The Rincon in Lake Powell
Lake Powell, Utah
Description
Added by Austin Jackson
Relax and fall asleep next to one of the most unique features on Lake Powell.
To get to The Rincon, you will first want to park your car and rent a boat (or bring your own power boat) at Bullfrog Marina. The marina does rentals for everything from houseboats to power boats to jet skis and kayaks/SUP boards. For this adventure, I recommend either a houseboat or a power boat.
Once you have your boat and all of your gear loaded up, you'll want to start heading south on the lake. The Rincon is located near mile marker 74, on the left side of the lake. This is about 20 lake miles from Bullfrog Marina, and should take somewhere around an hour to reach by boat. The Rincon is one of the best places to camp, since it is right off of the main lake and won't require any difficult navigation that could provide a houseboat trouble. There are many amazing canyons to camp in on the lake, but many have thin walls that are difficult to navigate in a houseboat, and better done in a powerboat. However, The Rincon is right off the side of the lake and is easy to reach in a houseboat or powerboat.
Once you've traveled to mile marker 74, you'll see The Rincon on the left side, as I mentioned before. Once you can see it, you can begin to search for a campsite. This area has many great beaches to tie down your boat for the night. If you have a houseboat, you'll be able to tie off for the night and relax with amazing views in every direction. If you are in a powerboat, you'll be able to beach your boat and set up your tent on the nice desert sand.
I love shooting milky way photos, so we opted for a campsite that would give us a view of The Rincon to the southwest so that the milky way would sit directly over it. However, you can camp up closer if you'd like. I encourage you to shop around and find a spot that you like.
When you leave, always be sure to leave no trace and pick up your area! Help keep Lake Powell beautiful for centuries to come!
