Some of the best bouldering in Tennessee only 20 minutes from downtown Chattanooga.

Stone Fort sits atop the Cumberland Plateau just half an hour from downtown Chattanooga, and is one of the premiere bouldering locations in the Southeast. One of the three sites of the annual Triple Crown Bouldering competition, Stone Fort offers a wealth of climbing problems for any climber's ability and stamina.

Stone Fort sits next to a golf course, so there is good parking and bathrooms. Climbers must pay a daily permit and sign a waiver to access the boulder fields that parallel the course itself. The climbing is only a 5-10 minute walk from the parking lot, and you could spend the next year trying to climb every problem Stone Fort offers.

As you explore the area you will no doubt stumble upon a group of climbers trying to tackle Jerry's Kids. Stop and watch the action as the solution to this problem is an amazing and delicate dance of balance, muscle, and mental fortitude.

After a day at Stone Fort you will come to appreciate why many climbers never see the need for rope and harness.

Post-climb hoof it back to town for a micro-brew at the Flying Squirrel Bar, conveniently located beside The Crash Pad; Chattanooga's hippest Hostel.

Bouldering Stone Fort, TN

Stone Fort is as easy of an approach as possible and the guide books are well developed so there is no real getting lost to find what you're looking for. I'm always pleasantly surprised with the variety from section to section. Different rocks have me working on my head game, then a hundred meters away its pure strength. This crag being so close to Chattanooga makes it even better. A must-go if you're anywhere close.

This spot is so easily accessible from downtown Chattanooga and is a great spot to meet an array of awesome locals while climbing. A must-do for anyone with climbing experience.
