Camp at Blackwater Falls State Park
Davis, West Virginia
Description
Added by Brandon Dewey
Blackwater Falls State Park is located in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains and has over 2,000 acres for campers to explore.
Blackwater Falls State Park is one of 36 state parks in West Virginia and is located just north of the Canaan Valley less than two miles from Davis, WV. Blackwater Falls State Park has over 2,000 acres, making it a great place to camp while you explore the beautiful area. The campground has 65 spots for tents and is open from the last weekend in April through October 31. The campground is dog friendly making it ideal to bring the whole family. I like to camp on the outside of the loop between camp sites 45-63 because, even through you are still able to see the neighbors, it doesn't feel like they are right next to each other. The campgrounds also have plenty of room to set up your tent, have a picnic table to cook and eat, and has a fire ring for camp fires to make s’mores. The campgrounds do have bathrooms and showers, and as of 2017, cost 22 USD a night.
The best part about camping in the Blackwater Falls State Park is the location! It is close to some amazing places and is great spot for a base camp while you are out exploring the Allegheny Mountains. Within the park, there are lots of places to explore, which include Blackwater Falls, Elakala Falls, Pendeton Lake, Pendleton Point Overlook, and my favorite spot Lindy Point. Just outside the park, there are a lot of hiking trails in the Canaan Backcountry, which includes another one of my favorite hikes, Table Rock. Blackwater Falls State Park is also less than 30 miles from Dolly Sods Wilderness, which is also filled with some amazing hikes.

Reviews
I've visited this park in the spring/summer a few times and didn't, but I'm going to be making a long weekend out of it this fall to see the colors! The park has some fantastic hiking, overlooks, and opportunities for photography during the season. I'm stoked!
