Relax on a private beach with amazing views. This is also a great location for night photography.

If you have never been to the Grand Teton National Park, you should make it next on your list. It is a fantastic place for wildlife viewing and exploring.

If you stay at the Colter Bay Campground, you will find many off-trail areas to explore. A trail leaving from Group Site 6, heading towards the water, ends up at a perfect site for hanging out - secluded and great for night photography. If you continue along the same trail for about 3 miles, you will meet up with the Colter Bay Trail, just past the day use area.

While daytime photos of trails, campsites, and mountain hikes (really any outdoor adventure) are all enjoyable, the real magic comes out at night! Truly unique photos are created when you slow down the exposure, open the aperture, increase the ISO, and add a headlamp or flashlight. The night photos shown above had the following settings:

Photo 1
  • Exposure: 30 seconds
  • Aperture: f2.8
  • ISO: 2000
  • Light: Surefire M3LT at 800 Lumens
Photo 2
  • Exposure: 30 Seconds
  • Aperture: f2.8
  • ISO: 3200
  • Light: Surefire M3LT at 800 Lumens

If you are looking for a quiet, small campground, this is not the place! But, if you're in need of a hot shower, a laundromat and store...and you're north of the Grand Teton Park, this is a great location!
