The Day Run Campground is a quiet and peaceful place to camp in the Monongahela National Forest next to the banks of the Williams River.

Located in West Virginia’s Monongahela National Forest about half way between Snowshoe and the Cranberry Glades makes this campground an ideal place to set up a base camp while you explore the surrounding area. It is located about five miles from Highland Scenic Highway (HW150), which makes it just far enough away to not hear any vehicles driving on the road but close enough to easily hop on and off. Highland Scenic Highway has a bunch of amazing hikes directly off of it, and Day Run Campground is located close to a good deal of them. The Campground only has 12 campsites but even on a weekend during the middle of summer, it’s usually only half full. The sites are large, spaced well, and are very private. Most of the sites are about 100 yards from the Williams River with a private trail leading to the river bank. During the summer the river is brisk and refreshing and usually only about a foot deep in most places, which makes it just deep enough to soak your feet in after a great day of hiking. The campground has bathrooms, a hand pump for water, and trash cans while each campsite has a table, fire ring, and a hook to hang a lantern. As of 2019, it cost $8 USD a night to stay. It opens for the season in Mid-March and closes at the end of November. Dogs are allowed on the campground.

To reach Day Run Campground from Marlinton, WV first take HW 219N for about 7 miles then turn left onto HW150. Follow HW150 for about 9 miles to the Williams River Bridge turnoff. Turn left off of HW150 and at the bottom of the off ramp turn right at the stop sign onto Forest Road 86. Follow 86 for 3 miles to Forest Road 216. Take a hard right onto Forest Road 216 and then drive about 1.5 mile to Day Run Campground which will be on your left.

Reviews

This was a good camp spot. Met up with a buddy here and it was basecamp for a few days of hiking. Out tent site was a little rocky, but nothing too bad.
