Camp at Lake Somerville: Nail's Creek
Burton, Texas
Description
Added by Sarah Vaughn
Enjoy some solitude while camping on the lake! Located in-between Austin and Houston.
Lake Somerville State Park has two portions you can visit, Nails Creek on the South side of the lake, and Birch Creek located on the North side of the lake. Both offer a variety of activities including camping, swimming, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding.
Within the Nails Creek Unit you can select from a number of campsites with views of the lake. Several trails lead from the campground that will take you further into the South side of the park. If you are camping here, take the Lake Shore Trail to the Overlook Trail and Rocky Point to get a glimpse of wildflowers, and a scenic view of the lake. Check out the trail map here:http://tpwd.texas.gov/publications/pwdpubs/media/park_maps/pwd_mp_p4505_0056k.pdf
If you prefer a more quiet stay, the park also offers primitive camping at Flag Pond.
And since you are so close to the town of Brenham, TX, make sure to stop for some Blue Bell Ice Cream at their headquarters!
