Camp at Lower Springhill

The Lower Springhill Campground is a primitive campsite situated along the Kern River in the southern area of Sequoia National Forest. Since this is a primitive campground, there is no potable water, bathrooms or garbage service. You must pack out what you bring in.

The campground is easily accessible from Mountain Highway 99, which cuts through the National Forest. There are no established campsites, which means this is a first come first serve area. There are several pre-created fire rings allowing usage of campfires. Permits are required for all campfires and camp stove usage. You can obtain a permit here. The best sites are found along the river and provide front row seats for views of sunsets over the mountains. 

There are rapids found near the southern end of the campground, which provides ample white noise to lull you to sleep at night. If you are so inclined, this is also a launch point (or stop) for whitewater rafting. Additionally, when the current is low you'll be able to fish and swim in the river. Make sure you know your skill level and be wary of the strength of the river.

Keep in mind this is bear territory and you will have to store your food and garbage out of the way during bear season!
