Camp at Montaña de Oro State Park
San Luis Obispo County, California
Description
Added by Nathaniel Polta
Spend the night near this secluded cove. If you're a photographer or just want to take in the night sky, this is a great spot with low light pollution.
Located about 7 miles south of Morrow Bay, follow Los Osos Valley Rd into the state park. Watch for the signs to park, as you will be cited after 10pm.
The campground is located just across the road from the famous Spooner's cove, but there are any number of trails and hikes you can enjoy (check out the Bluff Trail or Valencia Peak, which stands at 1,347 ft and overlooks everything including Morrow Bay.
Enjoy the peace and quiet of the cove after all of the day use people have left, and don't forget to look up and appreciate the Milky Way.

Reviews
I would highly recommend booking the environmental sites, four are available with minimal hikes to the sites. Great for a more secluded camping experience waking up in your own private oasis by the sea! (Also Montana de Oro is near Morro Bay, not Morrow Bay)

Trail running is especially good here. There are coastal trails,as well as forest trails, and every one of them is scenic and enjoyable.
