Camp at Moran State Park
Moran State Park, Washington
Description
Added by Nick Garcia
Considered one of the best camping hot spots in Washington state, Moran State Park offers an amazing camping experience for everyone.
Moran State Park is an true gem within the beautiful San Juan Islands. The park takes up a large portion of the East side of Orcas Island, the largest of all the San Juans. There are multiple campgrounds within the park along the shores of Cascade Lake and Mountain Lake. For the most relaxing experience, I recommend the South End sites on Cascade Lake, or any of the sites on Mounatain Lake as the other camp areas sit on the busy road that cuts through the park.
The main way to get to Orcas Island is by taking the Ferry from Anacortes. They have seasonal sailings so make sure to check into that and make your reservations in advance before you plan your trip. More info on the Washington State Ferry can be found here.
The park has over 30 miles of trails filled with breathtaking views of Cascade Falls and old growth forests. The summit of Mount Constitution can be reached by foot taking the main trail up the mountain, or by car taking Mount Constitution Rd to the very top. The views of the other nearby islands are spectacular. On a clear day, you can also see the Olympic mountain range, Mount Rainier, and Mount Baker off in the distance.
Moran State Park is a must if you have extended time in the Seattle area and want a great camping experience in the San Juan Islands.
