Camp at North Lake Campground

Haines Falls, New York

Description

Added by Tiffany Young

...but 200+ campsites never sounded so good!

During an unplanned road trip, we arrived at the North/South Lake Campground out of curiosity and without a doubt, it was totally worth the stop! (We only saw North Lake.)

To visit this campground, there is a fee for a day pass, unless you had just came from another campground in the Catskills like we did earlier in the day (a ranger from the Devil's Tombstone Campground had signed a receipt for us that morning after our stay. Also, still half asleep in the tent, I heard him say he was just a dude road tripping the country on his motorcycle... what a guy!)

This is the largest campground in the Catskills of over 200 sites and they do fill up during the high seasons. Two. Hundred. Sites!

As we drove towards North Lake, the sites were sectioned off into different loops that way it's not just one giant campground and you have a little bit of privacy, but can still have a party. Each campsite that we saw had fire pits and a fair amount of space. When we got to North Lake we were amazed at how well kept the lake area is. Clean facilities were available and so was a lifeguard.

The second we got out of the car, I grabbed some snacks and went straight towards some fine lookin' trees to hang up my hammock. I saw bikers, people canoeing and fishing, and families just enjoying the nice day.

Whether you're camping or exploring this campground, it's worth the fee and accessible to miles and miles of trails (backpackers from Escarpment Trail or the Long Path, you may find yourself making a stop here!)
