Description
Added by Abby Shepard
Camp among the loblolly pines in Delaware's largest state forest.
Redden State Forest, located in central Sussex county, is Delaware's largest state forest with over 12,400 acres. The forest offers 44 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and bird watching.
A limited number primitive campsites are available for no charge. Reservations are required, and the maximum stay is 3 nights. No bathrooms or showers are available, but there are 2 portable toilets and a drinking water spigot at the main building.
The sites are spacious, quiet, and nestled within the dense forest of primarily loblolly pines.
Amenities include:
- BBQ Grill
- Drinking Water
- Fire Ring
- Picnic Tables
- Free firewood
To access the campsites, follow Redden Forest Dr. into the state forest, and continue past the fire station. When the road makes a T, turn right onto the gravel road and lift the yellow bar to enter the campground area. Pick any available site.
Enjoy!
Effective June 1, 2020 there will be an overnight camping fee of $25/night + security deposit. Reservations must be made online. Maximum stay is 9 nights per month. You can learn more on the Delaware.gov website.

I love Redden State Forest, there is no light smog so you can see stars so well. Here is some more information: Camping is free of charge and booking is required on number 302-856-2893.
