Camp at the Wedding Tree
Jackson, Wyoming
Description
Added by Eric Bennett
Enjoy amazing sunsets and sunrises with great views overlooking the Tetons. Camping here is free as it's located in a National Forest.
This is a great spot to camp if the park campgrounds are full (particularly in the summertime). There is a designated camping area at Gros Ventre Campground, but if you're a little too late on the reservations or, like me, would prefer to get away from the crowds, head out into the National Forest, where it's first come, first served.
The parking lot is located off of Gros Ventre Road, past the Gros Ventre Dude Ranch and before reaching Lower Slide Lake, on the righthand side. Follow the trail from the parking lot, heading back the way you came, for about 5 minutes to reach the Wedding Tree.
Get some awesome views of the Tetons at sunset or at sunrise. There are plenty of trees to hang up your hammock, as well! Campfires are allowed, so pitch your tent, light up some logs, and kick back with your buds while you enjoy the view and cook some brats!

As Eric said, free, scenic and easy to access. The site itself is perched on top of a hill and you have almost 360 views of the valley and the red hills behind it. Also the wedding tree's themselves are dense enough that should it happen to rain, you are mostly protected by them (but don't depend fully on them -also bring a rain fly).
