Camping in the Gros Ventre Wilderness is nothing short of incredible. Not only do you get away from the sometimes crowds of Grand Teton National Park, but you can bring your pups as well! You have views of not only the Tetons from some spots, but also the Gros Ventre Range. You do not need a permit for backcountry camping, so you can set up anywhere -- they just ask that you select a site 200ft from a lakeshore so the opportunities for solitude can be maintained (how cool is that!). There is also ample fishing, hiking, and an actual campground in the area.And don't forget the wildlife! In one day, I saw bears, moose, elk, caught a few fish, and a whole slew of marmots :) To get there, head to the Gros Ventre Campground, then it’s about 10 miles from east of there, but honestly, there are a lot of little pull outs, and I just drove (about 10 miles) until I could see the Teton Mountain Range behind me.
Take highway 89 out of Jackson, headed north, and turn on to Gros Ventre Rd. This will take you right past the campground, wild rivers, and ample hiking. Keep driving for about 20 miles as views of the Tetons appear behind you, and ample backcountry camping options become available.

Such a great camping spot to pair with a few nights in Grand Tetons. The views are incredible and you'll bypass the typical crowds of the park. It is definitely worth hiking away from the road a bit for a more unique, secluded spot so pack light.

Many places to set up camp. Amazing views and plenty of wildlife. Take extra precautions and keep a safe distance from wildlife. It's bear country so be really bear aware. My suggestion is to pack light, park, hike and hike to peaceful serenity. Take a map and study it or if you #dontknowdontgo other wise enjoy!

I love camping at the spot called "The Wedding Tree" at the top of the hill on Gros Ventre Road. Amazing views!

I love the seclusion this spot has in the early season. So much less noise and people compared to the other park campgrounds.
