Isolated, yet easily accessible campsites on Leigh Lake offer some of most spectacular views of Mt. Moran, one of Teton's greatest peaks.
Because it's only accessible by canoe, kayak, or foot, the 8 Leigh Lake campsites have a solitary backcountry feel to them while providing all the necessities for an enjoyable night under Mt. Moran in Grand Teton National Park. The western campsites are paddle-in only, while the easter campsites can be accessed via trail or canoe.
First, you will need to visit one of the ranger stations to reserve your site. If paddling into your site, you will need boat permits for personal vessels as well. If you need to rent a boat, Dornan's is conveniently located in the park in Moose, WY.
From there, head to the Leigh and String Lakes Trailhead (right along the inner Teton Park Road). From the trailhead, the Leigh Lake eastern campsites are easily accessed by a one-mile hiking trail over flat terrain. Those in canoes or kayaks reach the lake after paddling String Lake and walking through a brief portage.
The designated sites all provide a private area with beautiful views of Mt. Moran or Leigh Lake, a bear box, and a fire pit. Once locating your campsite, keep exploring the area via trails or take your boat out to view some wildlife from the water.
