Car Camp at Charlestown Breachway Campground

Rhode Island is nicknamed the Ocean State for a reason, and camping by the coast is something absolutely necessary while in New England. During the summer and early fall, Charlestown, RI, as well as the surrounding beach towns, come alive with tourists from all over the globe. The Breachway Campground is located within Burlingame State Park, one of the most popular and worthwhile parks in RI to visit. Burlingame is 3,100 acres of rocky woodland that surrounds Watchaug Pond in Charlestown. The entrance to the park headquarters and camping area is off U.S. Route #1 in Charlestown, RI. The Breachway Campground is for self-contained vehicles (campers/cars, sorry, tent folks) with potable, black, and grey water holding tanks. Bathroom equipment must be permanently affixed to the unit. Burlingame State Park has fire pits, and fires may also be built on the beach with a permit. The Breachway is essentially just a devoted part of the beach for campers with RV's or mobile camp setups to stay, which is actually hard to come by in RI. There are no bathrooms at the Breachway Campground, but there are facilities in the state park. If you have an RV set up, this is a great place to stay for a week, but car camping is best for a night or two, since there are no showers/toilets at the location.

Rhode Island is a small state, but it's packed with so much to see.
