Catch a Sunset at Keys Beach
South Lake Tahoe, California
Description
Added by Josiah Roe
Tucked between the crowds and chaos of Camp Richardson and City Beach, Keys Beach is an oasis of quietude on Lake Tahoe's South Shore and a wonderful place to take in a sunset.
Owned by the State of California, Keys Beach sits at the end of a peninsula bordered by the Tahoe Keys marina inlet to the west and the Upper Truckee River to the east. This relative isolation along with its only access being by water or a single trail keeps the beach remarkably quiet relative to the surrounding "tourist" beaches, making it an ideal place to take in one of Tahoe's unparalleled sunsets.
To get there take Tahoe Keys Blvd. north off Highway 50, then right on Venice Drive East until it dead ends into the parking lot. Park along Venice Drive.
Take the trail north from the trailhead until it ends at the beach. There are several offshoot trails that connect back to the main trail.
Depending on the time of year mosquitos can be a nuisance so pack accordingly.
