Newport Pier
Newport Beach, California
Description

Stunning views; Huntington Beach to the north and Balboa Pier to the south. Great sunsets year-round with the best weather. Not as overpopulated as other beaches in Orange County. Photography, Surfing, Swimming, Running or Eating at nearby restaurants.
Newport Pier is located just south of Huntington Beach at the center of the Balboa Peninsula. Balboa Pier, the more crowded pier of Newport Beach, is nearby to the south. Thanks to the awesome weather of Southern California, there’s no reason this beach can’t be enjoyed all year long, which means the potential for stunning sunsets on the daily.
Parking at the beach can be found in the nearby residential areas and there are plenty of metered parking spots as well. However, be sure to check when street sweeping is because parking can be more sparse on those days.
One of my favorite things to do in Newport is spending the day chillin’ at the beach followed by photographing the sunset. You never know when you’ll catch that epic sunset, but when the clouds come rolling in, you know it’s gonna be a good one. Worst case scenario, you just spent a day relaxing at the beach. If you're hoping to get some waves while you're there, you can check the report at Surfline.
Be sure to check exactly when sunset is and post up with your tripod to find the shot you want. Catching a nice reflection of the pier on the water and shooting under the pier are a few of my fave shots. A neutral density filter will also help if you want that smooth water look. After the sun sets take a stroll along the boardwalk to grab a bite to eat at one of the many bars and restaurants in the area.

If you’re in the area, this is the place to chill and soak up the picture postcard views of the piers. A fun place to surf and watch all the surfers. So, bring a picnic and plan on spending the day here.

Fun spot to surf and catch the sunset. Bring food and stay until dark

I enjoyed the sunsets here, but also watching people who are way better at surfing than me make the sport look really easy. Also this area reminds me of a by gone era of California.

Lots different angles to photograph the pier at sunset. I arrived a little early to scope things out, lots of leading lines!

It was this pier that hosted my inaugural visit to the Pacific Ocean, which perpetually left me wanting more.

My father lived in Newport for 10+ years and we would walk this pier every time I visited. Get some ice cream, watch the sunset. Wonderful spot!
