Description

Panoramic vistas overlooking the East Bay onto San Francisco. Views of the Bay Bridge and Golden Gate on a clear day. The splendor of the city lights when night falls.

A well-known sunset spot in the East Bay, and rightfully so - the views from Grizzly Peak are stunning. You have several pull-offs to pick from. The larger ones have logs to sit upon. The smaller pull-offs offer benches and sturdy rocks. Take your pick!

You will share the sunset with some strangers but if you are one for solitude, check out the Northern pull-offs. They are smaller and therefore quieter. Stay long enough to watch the sun dip behind Marin County and city lights come alive. You are sure to find some peace of mind up here.

Grizzly Peak has an outstanding view of the of the East Bay and San Francisco no matter what time of day you visit, but the sunsets are magical.

The views here are really beautiful. My husband and I went right at sunset on a Monday evening. We probably should have arrived before sunset to catch more of it, but it was still gorgeous as the colors deepened into the night sky and city lights twinkled. The winding road up and back was kind of fun, but obviously won't be if you get car sick easily. We had to drive past a few of the pull-offs because they were really crowded, mostly with college kids from the nearby UC Berkeley. We found one that was not as crowded, parked down the road a bit, and got out to walk over together. It was a little chilly with the wind, and this was in June, so you might want to bring a blanket, and maybe even camp chairs, because the logs and such to sit on may be full. Overall, a fun little excursion with a beautiful view of the bay :)

Beautiful view of Berkeley bay bridge and downtown SF

I really love this location, even if it's not at sunset. One can see for miles on a clear day and the ocean is magnificent. Bring a friend up here and you are sure to cherish those memories for years to come!

Always a treat, if you don't mind the winding roads (not great if you get carsick) and some company at the pull-offs, usually. But go for the lovely view!
