Climb at Palisades Park
Oneonta, Alabama
Description
Added by Edward Day
Fantastic place for beginner climbers to set up and get on rope for the first time, but also a great spot for more experienced climbers to find some new routes to work on.
Palisades Park is a great place for beginners and advanced climbers. Following the pin, the crag is easily accessible from the parking lot. A short walk from the parking lot leads you straight to the cliff edge where you will find 60-70 foot cliffs to rappel/climb. Palisades requires you have a permit and pay a small fee at the park office before climbing. (Note: You must be 19 or older or have a parent or legal guardian in order to fill out the permit.)
Palisades Park is great for beginner climbers because all climbs feature two bolts at the top of all routes for top-roping. Some bolts are harder to reach than others, but most can be reached from the top without the need to rappel down. However, it is in your best interest to anchor to a nearby tree before attempting to set up your top-rope anchor. For the more advanced climbers, climbs can range from 5.4-5.12. Info on climbs can be found here.
To access the bottom of the cliff, there is an easy place to scramble down to the bottom by walking to your right along the cliff until you reach a fire tower. From there you can find easy access to the bottom.
