Climb Gravity Boots and After Burner

Foster Falls State Park is a sport climber's paradise, with most climbs tailored to advanced and expert climbers. Gravity Boots and After Burner are two climbs found on the Rocket Slab which is a standalone piece of rock to the left of the Sanford Wall. Both climbs run about 40'-50' and are bolted for sport climbing.

My sons are just getting the hang of leading sport climbs so this was the perfect place to spend the day practicing sport and top rope climbs with their cousin who had never climbed before.

From the parking lot head down the Lower Climber's trail which takes you down to a swinging bridge river crossing and to the base of Foster Falls. From here follow the trail running on river right which meanders along the south facing wall where hundreds of climbs are to be found. The Rocket slab is a little over halfway down the trail past a couple of overhanging cave areas and is noticeable because it stands away from the main wall.

Both climbs are a little challenging but safe for the climber ready to try their hand at leading a sport climb. After completing both sport climbs we rigged up a top rope and spent the day enjoying the spring weather and the challenges of The Rocket Slab. At the end of the afternoon it was quite easy for me to head up and clean the route with solid anchors at the top of the climb.

Can't wait to get back to Foster Falls in the summer so we can enjoy a swim in the giant green pool below the falls.

There is a campground beside the parking lot, but not open year round. Check with the park website here for availability.
