Climb Mt. Cory
Sawback, Alberta
Description
Added by Matt Ford
Distance: 1,300 m (1 mile) roundtrip. Duration: 4 hours. Elevation gain: 500 m (1,640 ft) between approach and climb. Scenic, easy access climb with exceptional rock and exposure.
Park at the viewpoint parking lot on the left side of the highway, approximately 2.8 km (1.7 mi) after turning off of the Trans Canada Highway. The trailhead is easily located on the north side of the highway.
The approach is short but steep and sustained. It starts as a trail and finishes as a scree and loose rock scramble, so careful route finding is essential. It should take around 40 minutes to get to the base of the climb. Because of the popularity of this route, it is recommended that you get an early start to avoid large clusters of climbers.
This climb is ideal for less experienced climbers as it is well bolted and the rock is exceptional for the area. "Banff Rock" by Chris Perry is one of the best books for all of the multi pitch climbs in the area. It has good quality colour photos, topos, history on the area and climbing, as well as up to date and accurate route descriptions.

Reviews
I hiked about 11 and a half kms. It was a super enjoyable climb. It was although tougher than I was expecting. A leg burner for sure. But worth it.
