Climb Red Wagon at the Oak Creek Canyon Lookout
Flagstaff, Arizona
Description
Added by Joseph Gulizia
Excellent trad climb with sweeping views of Oak Creek Canyon.
5.8, 80ft trad climb at the Oak Creek Canyon Lookout.
To get there, take the 89A North from Sedona, or South from Flagstaff. Then you will see signs for the Oak Creek Canyon Lookout. Take the turn off and park in the lot. If you think you will stay beyond closing, park across the street so you don't get locked in. When the lookout is open, there are bathrooms and water fountains available.
You have two options for the approach, rappel down the climb itself, or hike along the ridge and take the well worn path down to the base of the climb. There are around 70 climbs at the lookout itself, so this is an excellent place to spend a day climbing.
The climb itself is just to the left of the Trinity cracks. These are 3 distinct vertical cracks leading into a well defined roof. For your rack, having doubles of #1 and #2 Camalots are nice, you will need protection up to 2 inches. It is a lot of fun, with some nice hand jams, and creative stances.
Enjoy the climb! Please remember to stick to the leave no trace principles!
