Get your adrenaline flowing as you mountain bike downhill in the forest lined trails with tight, banking turns. It's also a great place to try downhill mountain biking for the first time with trails for beginners to advanced riders.

The Verde and Viking trails at Aspen Snowmass resort are long winding trails perfect for beginners and intermediates. The trails are a combination of open and forest-lined paths varying from 1 to 6 feet wide. They both do a nice job of combining large wide turns where you can keep your speed to extremely narrow 180 degree turns that will require some hard banking.

They offer multiple packages including the bike rental, protective gear, and the Gondola which will cost you ~$120 altogether. You are welcome to bring your own bike and purchase the lift ticket alone, which cuts the cost down to ~$45. Bringing your own gloves is highly recommended if you plan to rent as this will make your riding experience significantly more pleasant and is unfortunately not included in the protective gear rental.

Last tip is to give yourself time to acclimate to the altitude as fatigue will set more quickly at the 9,800 feet elevation at the top of these runs. If you want a longer ride, head on up the second lift to the Vapor trail which tops out at 11,325 feet elevation.
