Beartown State Park is a small, but wonderful West Virginia state park that has a short boardwalk trail through interesting sandstone formations.
From Rt. 219 about 7 miles south of Hillsboro, West Virginia, there are well-marked signs for Beartown State Park. This narrow road winds about a mile until the small parking area for the state park.
The boardwalk trail starts to the left of the bathrooms, and it is encouraged to walk the trail in a counter-clockwise direction, while reading the interpretive signs.
There are many rocks and crevices to explore along the path, and once finished, have a picnic at the park or explore some of the other parks in the area such as Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park.

Very cool park. West Virginia’s version of sandstone slot canyons. Boardwalk makes for an easy stroll and fun family adventure.

This is a fun one. I came when it was rather foggy/misty and it added a bit of drama to the whole area. Read the signs along the way, all pretty interesting!
