Fort Dickerson Quarry Park
Knoxville, Tennessee
Description
Added by Jared Beeler
Hike, bike, kayak, SUP, and swim at Fort Dickerson quarry.
This is an amazing gem in south Knoxville only 7 minutes away from Gay Street. This is one of the newest parks in Knoxville but it has been a part of Knoxville for centuries. The quarry is a gorgeous place for swimming and kayaking. This park offers numerous outdoor activities all in a great place for recreation. The GPS to the park will take you to the entrance of the swimming area so make sure to follow these directions not the ones online. There are two sides to this park so if you begin up a hill off of Chapman Highway then you are at the wrong entrance for the swimming.
The parking lot is down a small gravel road. There is no parking on this road but there are about 50 spots in the parking lot and an overflow lot that opens in the summer. From the parking lot the quarry is only a short walk so carrying kayaks here is not bad. When you first see the quarry there will be fences to keep people from cliff jumping however anywhere there is not a fence cliff jumping is allowed. The best place to put in kayaks and to swim is the base of the quarry which is at the end of the path. In addition to swimming there are also several places to run or hike around the quarry. The crystal clear water makes it a great place to cool off in the summer and a great place to visit in the fall.
