Now a protected reserve in its natural state, Moturiki was once a "Maori pa, a quarry, a marine aquarium and a tourist attraction called Leisure Island."

Mount Maunganui keeps proving that it is an incredibly family-friendly destination with its extremely well maintained path up Mount Maunganui, a massive and easy to access beach with great waves for beginners, all the food you can crave, and a little escape island.

Right off the main beach you'll see this awesome island that has been connected by a man-made land bridge. This little island called Moturiki Island have had a lot of use over the last century (and more) with its interesting history. Now it's something absolutely worth exploring while it has returned back its natural state in 2011.

From afar, it may not look like much, (but for those who love to climb any rock they see - you'll totally come sprinting!) Once you find yourself exploring the different paths and angles of this island - you'll see there's a cool spot at each turn. During the high tide, you may even see the blow hole in action and keep an eye (or ear) out for all the bird life you'll find in the bushes!

Give yourself a moment and sit on the northern end of the island to enjoy the refreshing sound of crashing waves right below your feet. You'll forget for a moment that the city is right behind you.

P.S. I never put anything under the "Romantic" feature, but at sunset/sunrise, it's definitely romantic as, bro.
