Enjoy expansive views of the ocean from this stop along the Ocean Path trail.

Otter Cliff – not to be confused with Otter Point – is a popular stop along the Ocean Path trail in Acadia National Park. This 110 foot cliff is one of the highest coastal headlands in North America and is a prime spot for rock climbing. If you don’t have your own gear, there are climbing tours available from outfitters in the area. Or if rock climbing is not your thing, you can also enjoy the views from the overlook.

There is a parking lot directly across the street from Otter Cliff, as an alternate to reaching the cliff from the Ocean Path trail. Be sure to take some time to wander on the trail in the area though, which will you give you different perspectives of the shoreline. Just be careful on the rocks, as they become slippery when wet.

It is great to go and look out over the cliffs, but it can be even more fun to climb. There are bolts set up and other places where you can build your own anchor. Some of the climbs are safer depending on the tide though

Came across Otter Cliff the first time I went to Acadia, and I always try to make a point to go back to that area when I go. It is a stunning view of the ocean and the surround cliffs. The scenery is so dramatic, especially at sunset!
