Explore the Lokobe Nature Reserve
Nosy-Be, Madagascar
Description
Added by Cat Ekkelboom-White
See the amazing endemic species of plants and animals on Nosy Be Island in Madagascar
Getting to Lokobe Nature Reserve is an adventure in itself. The road comes to an end where the mangroves begin. As soon as you reach the water level, you'll jump into a pirogue (a type of canoe) where you'll have to paddle your way across to the village at the entrance of the reserve.
As with most nature reserves and parks across Madagascar, you'll be accompanied by a local guide and a spotter. The spotter will go off ahead and call back with a radio to let you know where the animals are, so that you're not spending hours traipsing through the bush searching and not finding them.
Whilst Nosy Be isn't home to some of Madagascar's more famous or rare lemurs, there are still some lemurs here. There are also some incredible species of gecko and chameleon, including the absolutely stunning Panther chameleon.
