Explore the Marine Garden at Harris Beach SP
Brookings, Oregon
Description
Added by Josiah Roe
Intertidal wildlife from sea stars to anemones set against a thundering backdrop of arch rocks and sea stacks.
The Marine Garden at Harris Beach State Park is one of the 7 designated Marine Garden's on the Oregon Coast where the ecosystem is protected and the collection and disturbance of tidal flora and fauna is prohibited.
Interpretive hikes and guides are available through the State Park system, as are campsites in the State Park.
To get to the State Park, take Highway 1/101 a quarter mile north of the town of Brookings to the well-marked entrance to the park. As you enter the park, stay left and down to the large parking area above the beach.
The Marine Garden extends to “all rocky areas, tide pools, and sand beaches situated between high tide and extreme low tide lying between a line projecting perpendicular to shore from the Harris Beach State Park beach access parking area on the north, and a line projecting perpendicular to shore from the road entrance to Harris Beach State Park off of Highway 101 on the north.”
