Explore the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway
Kamas, Utah
Description
Added by Jordan Smith
78 miles of beautiful scenic driving. Wide range of activities. Dense forest. Rivers. Lakes upon lakes upon lakes. Abundant wildlife.
Mirror Lake Scenic Byway is breathtaking. There is lots to take in via longer trips, but with numerous viewpoints, lakes, and the Provo River just off the main highway, the drive through alone is well worth it.
There is SO much to do in the Uintas, with activities ranging from lakeside picnics to fly fishing the Provo River to canoeing on one of the many lakes to multiday backpacking through the Christmas Meadows to Amethyst Basin... and the list goes on.
Make sure to stop at Mirror Lake - the highway's namesake - and walk on the lakeside trail. It's beautiful. Hint - sunset is an amazing time to be at the lake.
You can stop at the ranger station in Kamas (or Evanston if you are coming from the north) for maps and information about the byway. You can also purchase larger, more detailed maps there.
Now get out there, find your own adventures, and share them with the rest of us!
Getting There:
From the Salt Lake area or south of Salt Lake, drive to Kamas. You will likely be on or intersect with Main Street (HWY 32). Take Main Street north to Center Street and turn right. Travel east and Center Street turns into the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway.
From anywhere near or north of Ogden, take I-84 East to the junction with I-80. Then take I-80 east toward Evanston, Wyoming. Take the second Evanston exit for HWY 150 and travel southeast. After you exit Evanston, the highway becomes the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway.

I went to explore mirror lake and was surprised by how much was on the byway. Stopped at many breathing taking viewpoints and would definitely recommend Provo River Falls

This is a great place to check out especially in the early spring because there is still a lot of snow left even in late June.

I think this highway is one of the prettiest drives in Utah. While it can get busy like everywhere else in Utah, it is a must do for anyone living in the Wasatch. The forests, rivers, and tall mountains are really beautiful. I especially love going there in early summer when there is still a lot of snow on the peaks and different trails. It's a nice escape from the 90+ degree weather in the valley. I highly recommend anyone to go and drive in this beautiful area. Of course, it's even better to get the car and hike too!

A beautiful lake and a great (dark!) place wonderful to take night photos! The only draw back is a crazy amount of people during the day and sometimes difficulty camping in the area.

I try to go to Washington Lake once or twice a year. This is an awesome adventure with fantastic scenery. Lots of lakes and fishing. Bring mosquito repellent during the summer.
