Explore the Pocaterra Cirque
Kananaskis, Alberta
Description
Added by Matt Ford
A relatively short and easy hike that leads to a beautiful, scenic pond. Distance: 1.5km (3km roundtrip). Elevation gain: 200m.
Start at the Pocaterra/Highwood pass parking lot. The pond is about 1.5km directly west from the parking lot, but the trail head is not always obvious, especially if there is snow. Keep an eye out for the flagging tape that marks the trail. Consider bringing snowshoes in November.
This makes for a great group outing to capture some terrific fall or springtime images. There are lots of very photogenic mountains in the background that make for unique landscapes at any time of the year. Once you arrive at the pond there are plenty of additional opportunities to explore further.
This part of Highway 40 is closed from December to June.
