Explore the Rogue River Gorge
Prospect, Oregon
Description
Added by Jason Hatfield
A small but beautiful volcanic gorge surrounded by a stunning forest.
This 500 ft. long gorge carved out of an old lava tube sits right along highway 62 near Crater Lake. The original road that brought travelers to the National Park passed right next to the gorge but it now remains hidden from view of the current highway. The area isn't large but has a nice parking area and 500 ft. long paved trail that follows right along the edge. At the head of the gorge sits a waterfall where the river splits around an basalt talus island and a little further up is some interesting rock formations and moss covered trees. If it's not overcast get here early in the morning for some nice sidelight in the gorge and surrounding forest.

Reviews
I just love seeing the raw power of flowing water over time. It’s a definite stop on your way to/from Crater Lake. Just incredible observation points, a nice easy trail along the river with plenty of pull-out spots to catch some sun, take a dip, or do some fishing. Great spot!
